Event Description : A solo exhibition of Watercolours on Landscape & Architecture by Sarabjot Kaur Malik.

Intimate Expressions of the World at Large
This first solo exhibition of Sarabjot Kaur Malik is one of an artist who already has a powerful backing in textile and dress-designing as well as grounding in drawing. This strikes one in the choice of places she paints and the manner in which her creative watercolours blend architectural features with the flow of nature.
To highlight this contrast she uses parts of buildings like arches, roofs, corners and gates, balancing them with the flow and delicacy of trees and creepers that have caught her eye. She succeeds in giving each landscape the character of an individual aesthetic experience over and above the general aspects of composition, form and colour.
In this way, we enter the intimate world of the artist drawn from existing architectural forms and flowing branches and creepers draped across them. We can see how each of these sparked off a flash of inspiration in her that then evolves as a creative work of art. The spontaneity and freshness of her experience comes across to the viewer directly.
Another aspect that makes her landscapes memorable is that they are situated in Amritsar, Nalagarh, Goa, Delhi and Neemrana, but not in the manner of tourist attractions. They are the visual representations of moments in the life of these places from a very personal angle. That is what makes them both memorable and easy to live with. This contributes greatly to why people have been choosing to collect her works even though she has not exhibited them to the public at large until now.
Suneet Chopra, Art Critic, Writer.

Bio :
Born in Amritsar in 1964, Sarabjot did her schooling from Sacred Heart School, Amritsar. The colonial architecture and sprawling green spaces of the school made an early impression on a love for nature and structures. This developed into an inspiration for her art.
In 1982, she joined the Home Science College, Chandigarh to do her B.Sc. and went on to do her M.Sc. from the same institution specialising in Clothing & Textiles.
1987 saw her back in Amritsar as a lecturer at the B.B.K. DAV College, Lawrence Road. She was instrumental in setting up the Dress Designing Department under the guidance of her Principal and mentor Mrs. Sudesh Ahlawat.
She married in 1991 and lives in Noida with her husband Harmeet Singh Malik and her two children Seher and Angad.
Although this is her first show, Sarabjot has been persuing her passion for creating watercolour artworks for over 20 years now.
Her art has been bought by a number of private collectors and she has also been commissioned to do special works by some of her clients.
