Event Description : Dastkar Nature Bazaar 2014.

The annual Dastkar Nature Bazaar is a loved and looked forward to event – combining handlooms and handicrafts, organic  and natural products, performances and workshops into a magic hand-crafted 12 days. The 120 plus stalls combine cutting edge design with centuries old traditions.

Dastkar currently works with over 500 different producer groups and impacts the lives of a staggering 80,000 artisans, many of them women who entered the urban marketplace for the first time through Dastkar. Dastkar NATURE 2014 brings together more than 120 craftgroups, NGOs and small producer groups, and designers.  The techniques and products of  South and North, East and West – and of course the wonderful tribal and textile crafts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are all represented here – given a new contemporary avatar .Designers and craftspeople have worked together to make traditional craft skills functional, beautiful and responding to changing consumer profiles.

A Nature Bazaar is not complete without a NATURE theme! This year’s theme is THE COW – The nurturer, the protective and dutiful mother who is so deeply rooted in our traditions. In this celebration of the cow, you will find your most loved products, and the hands that crafted them- each skill and master craftsman as our provider since ancient times. Milk based products and innovative depictions of the Mother Cow in varied crafts from across the country!

As the season turns chilly, revamp your wardrobe with luminescent Banarasi brocades from Uttar Pradesh, Tussar weaves from Bihar, and warm & vibrant woolen shawls from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat. Pottery, Bagh block-print home linens, apparel adorned with patti-ka-kaam and furniture in wood and cane. Floors will welcome stylish woven rugs from Rajasthan or dhurries from Uttar Pradesh.Banana fibre decoratives come from Karnataka, alongside hand-painted Kalamkari fabrics and woven jute dhurries from Andhra Pradesh & Telangana. Natural dyed eri silk home linen from Assam and vibrant beaded jewellery from Manipur bring the rich natural bounty & creativity of the North-East to NATURE 2014.

The Dastkar Nature Bazaars have been going for over 20 years now, and symbolize everything Dastkar believes in – natural materials, inspiration from the beauty and variety of flora and fauna, eco-friendly production systems, creativity, culture, and craft…. And of course, a common platform where rural craftspeople and urban customers can meet, mingle and exchange ideas and experiences with each other.  The NATURE BAZAAR is Dastkar’s flagship event, and the event has given a name to the venue! ” says Dastkar’s Chairperson, Ms. Laila Tyabji.

Nature exhibition always highlight eco-friendly products made from natural fibres, herbal and organic produce, vegetable dyes – and this continues to be a feature of the bazaar.

Performances, music, and craft workshops bring the NATURE BAZAAR venue alive, as do appetizing street snacks and regional food from across the country
