Event Description : Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan presents "A Life in Books" readings from the German Nobel prize laureate Herta Muller's books - The Indian Way.
“I have packed myself into silence so deeply and for so long that I can never unpack myself using words. When I speak, I only pack myself a little differently." Herta Müller. Romanian-born German novelist Herta Müller's brutal yet poetic portrayal of the oppressed life in Communist Romania earned her 2009's Nobel Prize in Literature. Published by Vani Prakashan, Müller's bestsellers Der Mensch ist ein großer Fasan auf der Welt and Atemschaukel are available in Hindi. After an introduction to Herta Müller's oeuvre by Carmen Ulrich from Delhi University readings in Hindi will provide a first impression of the translators' art. 'The challenges posed by Herta Müller's language and the publisher's motivation behind bringing out Hindi versions will be discussed by Varun Maheshwari, Vani Prakashan, Namita Khare and Rajendra Dengle, the translators of the books.
