The Brown Dance Project (The BDP) 
Translating the pedagogy of Action (POA) Module
HIV Education to Dance.

Lecture 2- Series: Gendered Citizenship 

Rodney A. Brown, founder/director of The Brown Dance Project (The BDP) is an Associate Professor/ Researcher at The Ohio State University (USA). His field is Modern (or Contemporary) Dance Technique, Repertory and Dance Composition. His research is on uses of dance as a tool for entertainment, Social Justice, HIV/AIDS education and education in various contexts. The imperative of his current project seeks to translate words to dance material such that a viewer can distinguish some functional differences between Red and White Blood Cells, dissimilarities of HIV and AIDS, understanding of Stigma, 4 fact- based ways HIV can be transmitted and ways to prevent HIV infection —mediated with Contemporary Dance. Brown’s special interests involve HIV/AIDS prevention, dance as an ethnographic tool (storytelling), African Americans, and words to movement translation.

Choreography : Series of Contemporary Dance translations of oral English words for HIV Prevention method and Pedagogy of Action (POA) Module on HIV Education. 

Publication : Online manuscript on the cloud-based web development platform, Wix.com in 2013, (Education Options in Dance Composition: The Brown Dance Project (The BDP) Translating the Pedagogy of Action (POA) Module on HIV Education to Dance) which documents MODULE 2013 choreography and word to movement translation creative processes.
