Event Description : "Brushed Symphony" an exhibition of Abstract Art by Biswajit Panda.

Biswajit Panda : Born in Balasore, Orissa in the natural landscape of rural Orissa, AcharyaBiswajit Panda spent his early life walking the paths climbing trees and watching the river close to the house as it meandered away. In the midst of such unspoiltsplendour Biswajit grew to be a very sensitive individual whose attention and sensitivity to detail was clear from his formative years. Growing up in his native village helped gather the experiences from which he performs these lyrical journeys on canvas.

His works have an energy, a meditative energy, which expounds itself on canvas. Each stroke is cleanly executed and in flow. The abstract images form life in the movement of those lines and splotches of paint. As one peers through those lines of kinetic energy moving across the Canvas one can feel the form come to life.

The subject matter, concept and visualization of the works are close to nature and the artist negotiates his way through the energy of forms and matter within the natural environment. Nature and buildings are also sometimes a metaphor of the self in a state of meditative expansion where all that we humans are made of seeps out in its complex layers of form and colour.

The boat like forms which one sees emerging from those aggressive strokes of paint are an association with his past where the river was a major part of his day to day life. It is also the symbolic representation of the growth of the individual.

Reflections play a key role in Biswajit’s visual analogy. Besides its visual association to water the reflection is a source of his view on life It is the cosmic element within the work which brings out the grandeur of the
central object, event or being. There is an intense engagement between the core and the reflection where energy transmutes itself bringing out the layers of visual triggers, which encompass Biswajit’s works. The flat backgrounds of vivid colours are an expanse which compliment the explosion of force at the core, with their whimsical lightness. They tie the work together as if they are the final notes of the symphony expanding and seeping into oblivion.

Being a professional sitar player, a Yogaacharys and a music lover, Panda has the ability to create the essence and movement in form from abstractto the figurative and build it in an engaging series of notes just like the scales of his music. One can see it in the series on Cranes where the detailing and work with the medium he has chosen and the strokes of the work with the blends of colour are a testimony to that very sensitive layering in his artwork and its visual language. The series on Cranes are a lyrical piece of that symphony where nature engages with the artist’s soul.

Weather it is the easily recognizable landscapes or the abstract forms which though abstract bring associations Panda’s works have an uncanny ability to transgress the boundaries of the frame and connect directly with the viewer touching him with the nuances of their element. As one gazes at these beautiful mindscapes one embarks on a journey...the journey of the human soul.
