Event Description : BloodConnect, India’s largest youth-run blood initiative, is glad to announce its upcoming cultural program which will feature India’s most popular hard rock music band- Parikrama. This program will also be the launch of BloodConnect’s upcoming activity- a nation-wide competition "The BloodConnect Challenge".
India faces a shortage of 3 million blood units annually. This shortage in India would be met if just 2% of Indian youth donate blood once a year. However, many Indian youths are unwilling to donate due to a major barrier: fear of pain. Blood Connect aims to overcome this barrier via their rock and roll booth.
Hard rock songs involve a lot of screaming. What if we asked them to overcome their fear of donating blood… by screaming for rock and roll? We get them to scream their loudest to Parikrama songs whilst donating blood. We then turn these recorded screams of fear intoScreams of Joy: A brand new Parikrama rock song.
Working in this field for more than four years now, BloodConnect deploys a 360-degree solution while focusing on making blood donation a youth movement and has been able to save 25000 lives till date through its blood donation camps and has handled more than 1800 helpline requests for urgent need of blood.
Schedule :
Award ceremony to exceptional blood donors and contributors to the cause
Inspirational speech to motivate all to join this cause and make it a youth movement
Video Screening & Exhibition to trace BloodConnect’s journey of the past four years
Band performance by Parikrama to enthrall the audience and thank all the people who have contributed in the cause till now.
BloodConnect :
Launched in IIT Delhi on 1st April 2010, BloodConnect is a non-profit youth initiative (NGO), which works towards one mission: “To solve the problem of blood shortage in India.”
It acts as a link between people who need of blood and those who are willing to donate blood. India currently faces a shortage of 3 million blood units annually and this shortage can be easily met if just 2% of the youth donate blood twice a year. Keeping this in mind, BloodConnect deploys a 360 degree solution while focusing on making blood donation a youth movement.
Impact till now:
Blood donation camps- 12,500 donations from over 135 donation drives till now and saved ~ 25,000 lives
Mass Awareness Campaigns- Outreach to over 5,00,000 people through street plays, seminars, etc.
24X7 Helpline 1000+ lives directly saved from helpline
Cause Champions Mentoring Team of 150+ individuals from over 25 colleges all over the country
Till now, it has setup chapters in 6 cities across prestigious colleges like IITs (Delhi, Kanpur, Ropar), NLUs (Delhi, Jodhpur), Delhi University and Punjab University.
BloodConnect focuses extensively on mass awareness campaigns
Human Blood Drop, Kurukshetra (12th August 2013) – The record breaking human blood drop formation, organized in collaboration with ISBTI, with a grand participation of 3069 enthusiastic student volunteers from Kurukshetra University, helped raise awareness and sensitize the youth about the cause of blood donation. The event had an outreach to over 5 lakh people through various media.
Annual Event, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi (30th March 2013) – The annual event marked the third anniversary of BloodConnect. The event was aimed at appreciating the efforts of donors and organizers, who helped BloodConnect take a step further in achieving its mission. The 400-strong audience was made aware about the intricacies of blood donation through an interactive quiz followed by an inspiring speech and a cultural night.
BloodConnect launched a nationwide campaign called “The Selfless Selfies” to commemorate 14th June 2014 i.e. World Blood Donors Day.
BloodConnect was also recently felicitated by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare on 14th June, 2014 for its commendable work in this field.
