Event Description : The School of Arts and Aesthetics cordially invites you to "a conversation with Rajeev Sethi"
Join us for a conversation with Rajeev Sethi, designer extraordinaire as he reflects on past and present projects, artistic collaborations and the opportunities and challenges confronting traditional skills in India today.
Most recently in the news for his programme of art installations that turned Mumbai’s new aiport terminal into India’s largest instance of public art, Rajeev Sethi has been South Asia’s leading designer for more than 35 years. Known for his contributions across exhibition design, architecture, festivals, and performances, Sethi has also been an activist, planner and policymaker who has sought to bring contemporary relevance to traditional skills in the era of mass production. His major exhibitions include Aditi (Smithsonian Institution, 1982), Mela! (Smithsonian Institution, 1985), Golden Eye (Cooper Hewitt Museum, 1985), Basic Needs (Universal Exposition, Hanover, 2000), and the Silk Route Festival (Smithsonial Folklife Festival, 2004). Sethi has also steered a Task Force for Cultural and Creative Industries in the Planning Commission for the Government of India. He is the recipient of the Padma Bhushan award (India, 1985) and the Order of Merit (Germany, 2001)
