August 9, 2014: Ek Shaam 3 Arts Ke Naam
An evening of dance, drama and music.
Eminent dancer and Padma Bhushan awardee Uma Sharma will inaugurate the festival on August 9. The theatre festival will also see Kamlesh Gill, veteran actress being conferred with the Raja Kaul Rangkarmi Puruskar. The 77-year-old actress has performed in various Three Arts Club’s productions including the widely popular Dhong, Bade Aadmi and Khule Baat during the 60s and 70s. The Raja Kaul Rangkarmi Puruskar was instituted in 2009 in the memory of R.M. Kaul, founder member of Three Arts Club, to honour artiste who have significantly contributed to theatre in Delhi.
On the same day, there will be kathak performances by Sanjana, a 2-year old child and Indian classical dancer Shalini Singh of Three Arts Club. In addition, a short play Sharth based on Anton Chekhov's famous story, The Bet will also be performed.
August 10, 2014: Surajmukhi Aur Hamlet
An Episode in the Life of An Author Directed by Amitabh Srivastava. This Hindustani play belonging to the genre of 'theatre of the absurd' is a laugh riot and pure entertainment! The play revolves around the day of an author who is being interviewed by a Bangladeshi woman press correspondent. The main protagonist is in a soup and to worsen matters, various characters of the play keep coming to him to seek solace and solution to their problems. These interruptions, which appear to be an illogical sequence of events upon which none has any control, make the play entertaining and irresistibly theatrical. Belonging to the genre of 'theatre of the absurd', this comedy portrays the existential crises of human beings in our modern world. A repeat performance of the play is also scheduled on August 11 at 7.30pm at Epicentre, Gurgaon.
