Jai Vaswani, otherwise known as Nanok, is a producer and DJ from Mumbai, who has been a veteran of the club circuit in the city for over 10 years. With the release of his newest album, Death By Shoelaces, in March 2014, Nanok makes a departure from the sound of his previous records, to a dance floor-friendly house/disco/funk vibe that is quickly being recognised as one of the freshest sounds currently emerging from the Indian independent electronica space.

Born in Queens, New York, Nanok moved to Mumbai at a very young age, and discovered his love for music and began DJing in the city, before travelling to London to study music production at Point Blank where he discovered a range of new sounds. On returning to Mumbai, Nanok became a regular in the clubs and party circuit in Mumbai, and was invited to play at some of the most renowned clubs in the city at the time.

New releases and a shift in sound
For close to 10 years, Nanok lent his musical expertise to various clubs and parties in Mumbai, until recently overhauling his sound entirely to release a slew of original music that has been widely acclaimed. In February 2014, a track by Nanok titled Rescue Me featured on Subterra, a compilation album comprising music by some of the freshest and most hotly-tipped producers in the Indian independent electronica circuit today. The album was released by Dualism Records, the record label founded by Dualist Inquiry, one of the most popular names in Indian electronica. A month later, Nanok released his sophomore album Death By Shoelaces, a seven-track record that is versatile, in that it can be straight-up dancefloor music at one time and almost entirely down tempo at another. The last few months have seen Nanok consistently gigging across the local circuit along with a slot at Sunburn Goa, opening for Tube & Berger and a show alongside the hugely popular American producer Michal Menert,.
