Event Description : Delhi Karavan presents 'Awadh ki filmy Saugaat'- Movie Screening of 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi' in 155 year old Haveli in Delhi-6
Karavan takes you to kaleidoscopic cinematic journey of Awadh. We present before you 'Shatranj Ki Khiladi', movie based on Munshi Premchand's story and directed by iconic Satyajit Ray, the 1977 film is like Mt. Everest in annals of Indian cinema, deserving more accolades than it received. the movie made during Emergency in India, costed a whopping 2 million rupees in those times Depicting the city of Thumri, and Kathak, pulao, biryani and kebabs, the movie is as much about confrontation of civilizations as it is about history and politics of the bygone era. The lead actors portraying Nawab Wajid Ali Shah and Begum Hazrat Mahal and many others lend amazing power in their roles. As chilum follows chilum, chess potrays lives of Mir and Mirza , and the crafty moves of the British to capture the king, and in process, the rise of a warrior queen is resplendent !!

Well, much can be said about the movie, the attraction being , that the screening is planned under a star lit sky in a 155 year old Haveli in the streets of Kucha Patti Ram, Delhi-6. The havelis' vistas transport you to the era of opulence, tehzeeb and like a thread one is woven in its tales and colors.

While we talk about the Awadhi culture and the history of the icons during that era before and during the movie, our Musafirs shall be treated to Awadhi snacks. Yes you heard it right! There shall be mouth watering dinner and snacks served during and after the screening and a befitting end with 'Paan Ki saugaat'!!
