Films to be screened are as follows :

Film 1 : DAMMED
An Award-winning film by Nandan Saxena and Kavita Behl
On the Jal-Satyagraha by villagers at the Onkareshwar Dam                                                                         DAMMED questions the modern paradigm of Development that makes a priori assumptions that mega dams and nuclear energy are critical to progress.
The profit & loss balance-sheets of Dam corporations never account for the people that are displaced, the pristine forests that are submerged and the fertile land that is lost forever.  The story repeats itself in dam after dam. Over 11 million Indians 'displaced' by large dams are nobody’s priority.
In September 2012, the NHDC Dam Corporation raised the water level of the Onkareshwar reservoir, in defiance of the orders of the High court. The dreaded submergence was at hand. No alternate land, livelihood or compensation was provided. This was the last straw.
In the face of this apathy, the villagers of Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh did a ‘Gandhi’.
After the media flashed the images of the 51 women and men- submerged neck-deep in water - there was a nation-wide furore. The government capitulated, but after 17 days. The film follows the drama inherent in the unfolding saga of the Narmada struggle over one year.
DAMMED pricks the hot air balloons of 'development' and 'progress' that engender inequity and create pockets of affluence amidst an ocean of poverty. It is the story of the grit and determination of the Dam-affected villagers of Madhya Pradesh, submerged neck-deep in the water of River Narmada, protesting against the apathy of the Indian government and exploitative Dam Corporations.
DAMMED investigates the passive genocide of citizens whose lives, livelihoods and property are submerged to electrify a few corporations and cities.
The story of this unique struggle in India is relevant to all nations that have rivers, Dams and people.
It is an independent film by National Award winning film-makers Nandan Saxena & Kavita Bahl.
