Event Description : Green’s the scene at Dastkar Green Mela!

The second edition of Dastkar GREEN MELA is presented in partnership with Delhi Tourism.

Since the opening in 2012 of the new permanent venue, NATURE BAZAAR at Andheria Modh, Dastkar (a Society for Crafts & Craftspeople) has expanded its marketing & awareness building efforts to include promoting natural products and environmental awareness.

Dastkar GREEN MELA provides a strong and diverse direct marketing platform for small producers and innovative new entrepreneurs to increase consumer awareness of eco-friendly practices like composting of kitchen waste, use of organic fertilizers, using solar energy and recycling left-over fabric and electronic waste. Dastkar GREEN MELA will bring together a wide range of products and ideas that showcase the many alternative options customers now have in terms of food, decoration items, garments and accessories, gifts 
and beauty care. Participants at Dastkar GREEN MELA offer a variety of organic honey, spices, herbs and preserves, along with rice, pulses, flour and many different teas straight from the farms. Try out the natural, herbal or organic alternatives in sweetly scented soaps, scrubs and skin and hair oil formulas based on ancient medicinal knowledge. Natural dyed organic cotton garments and natural paints and crayons will introduce everyone to the vivid tints of nature. Home products like bamboo and wood furniture, fine-weave grass mats, lamps, pottery, candles will be available along with paper products and eco-friendly jewellery using papier-mâché, clay, fibre or cloth. A wide selection of plants, planters and garden accessories will feature too.
Accessories and gift items from recycled paper, cloth, rubber or wood propose attractive and planet-friendly choices to consumers whilst allowing several welfare organizations to provide sustainable livelihoods and employment opportunities. The Food Court will offer a delicious variety of tasty regional foods and healthy meals and snacks. Cultural performances from Kerala and Madhya Pradesh will be enjoyed throughout the event.

Demonstrations in organic gardening, composting and alternative energy will build awareness of how we can all contribute to create a healthier environment! Spiritual healing techniques and consultations will also be available for alternative therapy.

Dastkar, a national NGO working with crafts and craftspeople for over three decades, strongly believes in crafts as catalytic tool for social and economic empowerment and earning. Partnering with Delhi Tourism, it is developing the NATURE BAZAAR venue in Andheria Modh as a hub for crafts, culture and natural products, linking South Delhi and Gurgaon.
