Event Description : Delhi Karavan presents "Heritage Baithak on Dilli Tehzeeb" at a 155 year- old Haveli.

Our Karavan travels through not just physical remnants of heritage, but also through cultural traditions which are a part of our collective history. The next stop in this journey of discovery and exploration will be a 'baithak' organized to probe and discuss the 'tehzeeb' which characterized the glorious Delhi and Awadh culture of yore.

The word 'tehzeeb' refers not just to a cultural practice; it encompasses an entire way of living in itself. Tehzeeb concretized over great many years, and it continued to evolve as differing customs and practices fused together by interaction of people from different regions.

We have various cool words to greet each other nowadays, but in the bygone era, you would always say an 'Adaab' to your seniors and 'Jeete rahiye/khush rahiye' to the younger ones. The word 'Adaab' itself comes from 'adab', which means 'respect' or 'politeness'. Many such dimensions of the word 'tehzeeb' are waiting to be discussed on 2nd March, in the presence of many enthusiastic participants.

A very special guest for the occasion is Mr. Qamar Agha Sahab, an independent journalist, and among the last big Zamindar's from Allahabad. He himself was instructed in "Tehzeeb and Adab" at the 'kotha' of Wazir Bai, and we can promise that he will bring some great insights and trivia into our discussions.

So, dear Dilliwalon, block 2nd March, 2014 in your calendar for our Heritage Baithak - a day where we will all get together and observe how our culture and evolved altered over generations. Hope to see you!
