Event Description : Holiday Out (Postcard from the Sea) is a monodrama for one female character, Soledad, who has returned from a seaside vacation to find her luggage has been lost. Thrown straight from paradise into the twilight zone that is the airport waiting room, Soledad finds herself having to justify the fact that she is a single, unmarried woman, travelling alone. As she waits for the arrival of her dear belongings, she converses with herself, the airline attendant, the security guard, and even her prodigal suitcase as if they were all part of her own fragmented psyche. She equates the loss of her luggage the loss of her mother. Soledad eventually finds that the clarity she was searching for was not to she found on a sunny beach but somewhere closer to home.
Director’s biography : Annapoorna Dasgupta remembers doing theatre since she was ten. Although she went on to study history at Lady Sri Ram College, Delhi, it was theatre that occupied most of her time. As part of the college drama society, she was involved in every production over the three years she was there. During this time she worked with theatre practitioners like Neel Chaudhuri, Andrew Hoffland, Rahul Rai, Deepan Sivaraman and Benil Biswas. In her final year at college, Annapoorna was elected president of the drama society and directed their annual theatre production Shrink Resistant. Her other directing credits include Boorhee Kaki, based on a story by Premchand and Hawaalaat by Sarveshwar Dayal Saxena.
