Event Description :
“Dialogues in the kitchen” tries to discover the women self-expressions through the traditional cuisine arts, through the way of their own use of recipes, ingredients or tools. Around the fire of a kitchen there are always being preapared the feelings of a family… of a society.

There is always a dialogue in between needs and feelings; dialogues in which the women are the main characters, sometines remaining hidden, from those storys kept by the kitchen arts. This proyect is an approach, through images, to the way the transmitted feelings from the kitchen in the bosom of home, remain for years in every person. Developing in every one a particular identity always alive despite the migrations. This odors and flavours live on everybody’s luggage. India and Latinamerica are the sources of inspiration and its women, the characters that play the main roles. “Dialogues in the kitchen” tries to move closer to very different worlds, that are, at the same time, very similar through the fireplaces. Also it tries to discover to every kind of women from her cooking art and find out the influence they daily have on their diners. The proyect also research and move closer the duality in beetwen the rural and the urban spaces by using the national migrations. All the migrants bring wherever we go our own cuisine styles and particularities, which can be noticed not just during the prepartion, but in the ingredients, tools…

Photography gathers, stops and frames the use of the instruments in the hand of whom, since the arrival of the ingredients in the city, until its finally approach by the diners, have to be involved in the intimate dialogue of every home. This a talk about transformations, experiences, interpretations and contributions. This project is a collaboration between The Embassy of El Salvador in India, SOS Mujer and Fuzion.

Biography: Mayra Navarrete y René Figueroa, both from Salvador, discovered the
photography technique when they were studying civil engineering. However, was the challenge of the self-expression through the camera lens what they really dared. Now, an itinerant migrant and a traveller, almost through his country, have a very similar identity. Both have the same origin, so they perceive the same cultural similarities and differences. René usually gathers the sample of the simple and regional cuisine from Salvador, which had been moved to the cities by some rural migrants, who took refuge in the cities in the 80’s, when a violent civil war was started. Mayra, from India, collects the diversity and the richness of its cuisine, specially in New Delhi, where the daily immigrations cause an impossible count of its population density.
