Event Description : Lokatma presents 'Dehaati Kala Khazana' An Exhibition of Unique Arts & Crafts from the Villages of Bihar.' (A Lokatma presentation in association with the Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts)
A treasure trove of affordable one-of-a-kind gifts for the festive season, sourced directly from artists and master craftspeople living in the villages of Bihar --hand-painted silk sarees & stoles, stone sculptures, wood carvings, papier mâché folk sculptures, handwoven siki-grass decoratives & tableware, hand-painted terracotta & an exquisite curated collection of Maithil paintings.
About the organisation: Lokatma is a Delhi-based fair-business-practices initiative formed to showcase and market village arts and crafts from Bihar. Bihar is a state with some ancient and beautiful art and craft traditions that are struggling to survive due to economic and infrastructural constraints. I attach a soft copy of a brochure detailing Lokatma's objectives.
Lokatma held its first event, a curated exhibition and sale of select paintings by about thirty different village-based artists of Madhubani District in North Bihar, in August this year at The Ashok, Chanakya Puri, New Delhi. With limited publicity, we are proud that we sold seventy five paintings in ten days.
Our second exhibition and sale, called 'DEHAATI KALA KHAZANA', featuring a range of crafts as well as paintings from Bihar, is currently ongoing at the Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts, at Adhchini, New Delhi.
