Event Description : Amazing Thoughts presents 'Khadi Ke Dhage' Hindi Play.
The play Khadi Ke Dhage, was first staged at LTG auditorium, New Delhi in November, 2011 and 25th sept 2013 and was very well received by the discerning audience. In November 2011, Delhi Doordarshan telecast a few snippets of the play in their cultural round-up programme.
The play, "Khadi Ke Dhage" will be staged by "Amazing Thoughts", a voluntary organization which has successfully staged many plays and it will be dramatized and designed by Abhineshwar Dayal Saxena, a versatile writer and stage director himself, and it will be directed by Ankit Satti. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Khadi Ke Dhage will be greatly appreciated by the audience for its thematic strength and excellent presentation. Its staging close to Gandhi Jayanti will no doubt add a lot of grace and solemnity to the occasion.
The main character of the play is Savitri, an elderly woman about seventy years of age who has been a witness to the lofty ideals of Gandhiji and his impact on various facets of life in contemporary India. Operating the spinning wheel everyday and singing Bapu's bhajans are a part of her daily life. She has a friend Shankuntala, who is virtually her window on day-to-day life around her.
Savitri's two brothers are somewhat irresponsible and naughty. They just do not take any interest in studies etc. Nevertheless they somehow manage to get settled in life. But the children of her two brothers are studious and serious minded about what life expects from them and what are they expected to contribute to the society. One of Savitri's granddaughter, Tanya, goes to New York to pursue higher studies. She is greatly influenced by the unique and strong personality of her grand-ma Savitri, and makes it a point to visit India every summer holidays to spend some time with her. The theme of the play revolves around conversations that take place among these principal characters. These conversations and certain episides in between beautifully and artistically present all the contemporary events of Gandhiji's life, like salt movement, Gandhi'ji's clarion call for boycott of foreign goods, his call for satyagraha, to name a few. It also depicts the negative effects of Zamindari, torture inflicted upon the poor generally and how the life assumes an entirely new meaning if the youth respect certain ideals and acquire skills. The play thus takes us from the past, to the present, and how we can bequeath a better future to our children.
