Kalaripayattu, a living tradition of martial training from Kerela, is highly recommended for professional dancers who want to develop their agility, concentration and strength. With an emphasis on correct breathing techniques for each specific movement and posture, the aim of this class is to develop the body in a way that its movements are controlled by a fully mature and alert mind. The class will enable dancers to recollect, reinforce and rejuvenate their inherent energy. This class is open to dancers, martial artists, and yoga and theatre practitioners.
Sumesh P.B. works as a theatre and martial arts teacher as well as an actor. He is trained under Sensei Manoj K.S from Bodhidharma Martial Art Academy, Kerala in Karate-do (Black Belt 1st Dan, Japanese Style), Kobu-do (Okinawan Martial Arts) and Kalaripayattu (Kerala Martial Art Form). He also had his training in Folk Dance (Devarattam) and Chillambu (Tamil Nadu Martial Art Form) under Koothupattrai exponent, Raja Ravi Varma. He has the license to teach Martial Arts (Karate-do) awarded by the Bodhidharma Martial Arts Academy, Kerala.

9th to 26th September : 
ADVANCED CONTEMPORARY DANCE with Nakula Somana
Monday- Thursday
9-10.30 am
Rs. 2000 for 8 consecutive classes/ Rs. 350 per class
This class will be a combination of floorwork and travelling sequences. The class will progressively build up in complexity and variations. Lunges from Kalari, flocking together, jumps, small duets and weight-sharingwill make up the core of the class. Falls, sweeps and rolls would bring an awareness of more weightedness in dynamics. The class will culminate in improvisational creative tasks.

11th to 27th September : 
CONTEMPORARY DANCE FOR BEGINNERS with Nakula Somana
Wednesdays & Fridays
6-7.30 pm
Fee: Rs. 1500 for 6 consecutive classes
The focus of the class is on softening, breathing and working with the joints.The class will begin with stretching and small combinations of floorwork. This would be followed by exercises from dance and martial arts across the floor. The class would end with a creative task or a combination or both!
Nakula Somana began training in dance at open community classes in India and the UK. Later, he attended a foundation course in Dance in the UK. He has worked constructing small pieces over the years and is part time faculty on certificate programs in dance at the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, The Terence Lewis Dance Scholarship Trust and the ISPTD Trust. He is also a member of the Peaking Duck forum and The Kha Foundation.He is interested in finding various resources for the arts and envisages a world where participation and access is easy and open to anyone.
