Event Description : Delhi By Foot presents Independence Day Commemorative Walk - Mutiny of 1857
Did you know that many 'Fakirs & Jyotishis' in North India foretold that exactly 100 years after the decisive Battle of Plassey in 1757 which marked the beginning of British dominance in India, it would be 1857 when Indians will throw out the English with a final rebellion?!! This were one of the many folklore/rumours that fuelled the imagination of Indians before the revolt of 1857 took place.
May 1857. A mass mutiny by a garrison of native Indian Sepoys (soldiers) of the British East India Company in the dusty little town of Meerut near Delhi threw the country into turmoil. The revolt soon spread across the Northern parts of India and Delhi the capital of the crumbling, almost non-existent Mughal Empire was thrust into prominence. 
156 years after that 1st War for Independence when we celebrate our I-Day, DBF invites you to the walled city of Shahjahanabad to share tales of places like Kashmere Gate, the Baradari at Qudsia Garden and other strategic landmarks of that era and re-live the experience of the Revolt of 1857.
This Sunday hear the story-tellers of DBF recount facts & tales of the Mutiny which historians refer to as India's 1st War of Independence as we celebrate our 66th year of freedom in the area around Kashmere Gate and its surrounding area...
