Event Description : Bela Theatre Karwaan presents "Maskhare" Hindi Play. 
An integration of Antone Chekhov's The Drowned Man and The Swan Song. 

Synopsis-  The play “Maskhare" is an integration of a short story-Bandargaah and a one act play Hans Geet originally written by Antone Chekhov. Both the stories collaborate through the episodes of clowns performing on stage. The clowns entertain the audience and people find solace in their acts and stunts. The audience never gets to see the pain deep in their hearts. The play takes us into the life of such two people whose work is to entertain others by their performance but people fail to see the struggle and sufferings of the performer behind that. The play opens up with clowns performing near seashore. After that performance all the clowns go except one who remains there and allures a tourist to see his stunts of getting drowned in the sea. The tourist shuns him at first but after much charming and tempting by the man the tourists finally give in to see his show. But in the flow of his entertainment the tourist forgets the name of the rescuer and his joy results in the death of the clowns. The next episode takes take us again to the clowns where they are mourning the death of their member, but they tell us that it is not the end of the journey. They are here to perform and make people laugh and they will do the same. The script takes us forward where we meet a 68 year old artist who reminisces about his life. He has devoted 45 years of his life for the entertainment of public, but now he has emptiness and frustration within himself. The audience and other artists have already left the theatre and he is alone in the drunken condition on the stage. He is homeless, familyless and loveless. Nikita Ivanich, the old prompter comes to console him and shows deep sympathy. He talks about his helplessness, despair and failure. In his youth, he proposed a girl but she asked him to leave the stage. She could love the acting but not the person. He is in a painful condition now. He has no home and no relative to care for. Nobody suggested him to go with. At the all the clowns tells the truth of their life.
