Event Description : K.B.H! A story in Kathak
Are world dances only storehouses of good ideas to be mixed and matched to create contemporary dance…or can classical also be a neutral jageh (place) where we can perform history? The subject of Indian classical dance continues to globalize so its Time for our generation to understand the labels before reclaiming them!
KBH is a story about why we still say Kya Baat Hai! without even thinking about it. Even those who may not be familiar with classical dance or music still get enchanted by its beauty and get caught saying "What's up!". This piece is a response to that question in dance, music, and spoken word.
A choreography made as an adaptation of Pandit Birju Maharaj ji's masterpiece Ghungroo Tarang, it is also an homage to the first ever contemporary explorations of Kathak. KBH continues this journey with a team of young Kathak professionals and an international Hindustani classical orchestra to conjure a contemporary mosaic of the raw elements in these forms: Tukda, Paran, and Tihai with Swar, Sahitya, and Raga.
The performers are Natalia Hildner, Bhakti Deshpande, Raksha Singh and Sunil Sunkara. The principal dancer/choreographer/producer Natalia Hildner is a disciple of Pt Birju Maharaj
