Event Description : “About joy” a music concert by Ara Malikian (violín) y Juan Francisco Padillas (guitarra)

Synopsis: The artistic project featuring Ara Malikian and Juan Francisco Padilla presents the Spanish traditional music in a new interpretation for two instruments, guitar and violin, which blends flamenco, Spanish classical music and world music.

Biography: 
Ara Malikian  (violin) is one of the most brilliant and expressive violinists of his generation. In possession of a personal style, forged from his  own origins and rich musical experience, his artistic voice has emerged as an original and innovative presence on the world and musical scene. His musical and human restlessness have led Ara to deepen his relationship with his own Armenian roots and to assimilate music of other cultures, like those of the Middle East (Arab and Jewish), Central Europe (Gypsy and Klezmer), Argentina (Tango) and Spain (Flamenco). All this is achieved within a personal language in which the rhythmic and emotional strength of these types of music go hand in hand with the virtuosity and expressiveness of the great European classical tradition. Malikian has performed in the most important concert halls of the world in more than 40 countries on five continents.

Juan Francisco Padilla (guitar) has won many international prizes and competitions for his guitar playing and recently recorded and toured with Cecilia Bartoli and Il Giardino Armonico for the record label DECCA. The 
resultant album, Sacrificium, won a GRAMMY Award in 2011 and is currently one of the best-selling classical music CDs on the market. Since its release, the album has even competed with some of the great international pop stars in number of sales. As a prolific musician and ambassador for the guitar, the Youth Institute of Andalusia awarded Padilla the Prize for the Promotion and Furthering of the Arts. In the field of guitar making, Padilla has researched and developed the instrument, working in conjunction with luthiers who have since gone on to become important figures in this area thanks to his contribution and his acoustic and structural knowledge of the concert guitar.
