The Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group (BPG) started offering free dance classes for people with Parkinson’s in the Fall of 2001. Hrishikesh’s Centre of Contemporary Dance, in affiliation with MMDG, has initiated this program in Pune. The program facilitators integrate movement from indian classical and modern dance, and choreographic repertory. The class is an aesthetic experience that uses narrative, imagery, live music and community to develop artistry and grace while addressing such PD-specific concerns as balance, flexibility, coordination, isolation and depression.
The film is a documentation, celebrating dance and its benefit to the participants.
Hrishikesh Pawar studied Kathak under the guidance of the legendry Guru Rohini Bhate, Guru Sharadhini Gole and is presently continuing under the guidance of Guru Amala Shekhar. Strongly influenced by the ‘expressionist dance’, Hrishikesh draws inspiration from modern dance legends namely Pina Bausch, Gret Palucca and Martha Graham.
