Event Description : Sanskriti Museums celebrate International Museum Day.

The worldwide community of museums will celebrate International Museum Day around
18 May, 2013.
This year, the theme of the International Museum Day will be Museums (memory + creativity) = social change. Our rich heritage, which museums display and protect, is associated with inventiveness and vitality, both of which have characterized the museum sector in recent years and are museums’ greatest strengths.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to increase public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society.
Momentum has been rising unabated ever since. In 2012, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking participation with almost 32,000 museums hosting events in more than 129 countries.
Sanskriti Museums, located at Anandagram, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, New Delhi which houses three unique Museums of Everyday Art, Indian Terracotta and Indian Textiles is also celebrating International Museum Day.
Sanskriti is organizing two-days art and craft workshops based on the IMD 2013 theme, (Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change) around the Museum Collection.
Around 200 children from Government Schools and NGOs will be participating in these workshops. The children will be taught the art of Block Printing, Madhubani Paintings, Crochet (Quasidakari), Water-colour Painting, etc in an effort to provide them a creative understanding and an expert’s guidance in learning selected art forms.
The initiative is in collaboration with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, New Delhi.
