Event Description : The Gati Dance Forum presents 'Movement of Black Pot' with Mayuka Ueno Gayer & Surjit Nongmeikapam (Bonbon)

The workshop will focus on the observation and interpretation of the movements on the art-crafting of India: Longpi Pots. This hand making culture of Manipur is preciously preserved within the few families of the Eastern side of Manipur, North – East India and are famous for the blackness of the pots. In the 1st part of the workshop, the participants are invited to watch the process of pots making through a video.
Focusing on the quality of the movements, the participants will interpret it with their own bodies, free from the habitual movement. In the second part of the workshop, we try to develop the movements by using different pots, sensing the gravity, the anti-gravity, the roundness, the blackness, the coldness, the texture etc. After the individual exploration, we will try out different patterns of holding the pots collectively and try to sense the effects on the dancers when indirectly connected via an object.

Dancers, non-dancers, actors, right differently ables, all are welcomed.
