Event Description : The Gati Dance Forum presents Ensemble Physical Theatre Workshop with John Britton.

This workshop takes us to the heart of ensemble. Combining precise physical training with structured improvisation, you will develop skills in working instinctively with others, responding with freedom to impulse, and developing performance presence. The workshop will combine shared training exercises with solo, small-group and ensemble improvisation to develop skills in spontaneous choreography and performance. Drawing on influences from European theatre and American dance, the workshop offers a joyful, dynamic approach to taking creative risks in collaboration with others. This training method ('Self-With-Others') places disciplined pleasure at the heart of the learning process.

There will be the possibility for those participants who wish to share results of the work publicly on the evening of April 5th. This sharing will be followed by a double bill of performances inspired by George Buchner’s work; ‘Lenz’ by The Arshinagar Project and ‘Echo Chamber’ by DUENDE.

John Britton has been performing, directing and teaching for over 25 years. He shares his approach to training physical performers through an extensive programme of international workshops and residencies. He is a researcher at the University of Huddersfield (UK) and teachers regularly at Balletakademien, Stockholm. He also teaches regularly in Greece, Germany, France and Australia. He is Artistic Director of DUENDE, an international collaboration of artists committed to ensemble performance.
