Event Description : Gallery Art Nouveau presents 'Who Am I?' an exhibition of paintings by Premila Singh.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, Artist Premila Singh exhibits her beautiful yet thought provoking body of work titlle “Who am I?”
Premila’s artworks highlight the burning issues related to women. Premila, having spent the last 20 years in various African countries, has captured women and their varied emotions beautifully in her paintings.
The exhibition portrays and supports the cause of oppressed and exploited women.
Premila Singh is a self-taught artist who has spent the last two decades in various African countries. Indian born, she has been based primarily in South Africa but has extensively travelled into many African countries. Her works are strongly influenced by African colours and imagery.
Most of Premila Singh’s paintings are focused on the people of Africa and their total involvement in their simple day–to-day living. There is a tremendous struggle to survive and yet there is joy and colour that breaks the monotony of their simple lives. The parallel is drawn between them and the simple uncomplicated lives of the people in India, or for that matter in any other country in the world. They all struggle to find meaning in their existence.
