Event Description : Khoj International Artists’ Association presents 'Listen, my heart, to the whispers of the world…..' 8 Sound Art Pieces by Indian & International Artists.
Khoj International Artists’ Association presents Listen, my heart, to the whispers of the world - a two-hour exhibition of sound art, specifically composed with Dolby Surround Sound as a platform and the modern cinema hall as a site. Eight audio pieces, by Indian and international artists, composed of surround sound works will be presented in the darkness of a cinema hall without visual accompaniments at DT Cinemas, Saket on February 2, 2013 from 7.30 p.m. till 9.30 p.m. The sound compositions will be presented one at a time for isolated listening. Straddling the border between movie, concert and exhibition, this cinema in the dark engages visitors by re-presenting an environment they are already familiar with in a completely new way. Through this exhibition, Khoj intends to widen the audience for sound art and to introduce more artists to the potentials of the cinema hall and home surround sound as a standard platform for composition.
Says Pooja Sood, Director, Khoj: “Khoj has hosted some of the most exciting events during the India Art Fair for the past two years like the Khoj Marathon with Hans Ulrich Obrist in 2011 which had over 700 visitors through the day and Khojlive12 in 2012, which had over 1,300 visitors through the evening. For this event too, we estimate 700-1000 visitors. The event will be of interest to artists, collectors, historians, theorists, curators, gallerists and art enthusiasts from India and abroad.”
Khoj has invited Alexis Bhagat and Lauren Rosati, two curators of ((audience)) - an unprecedented project that explores the cinema as a 21st century concert hall - to collaborate with Khoj for this event.
The artists participating in Listen, my heart, to the whispers of the world are Budhaditya Chattopadhyay (India/Denmark), DifFused beats (India/Germany), Hildegard Westerkamp (Canada), Iain Armstrong (United Kingdom), Kamal Swaroop (India), Michael Northam (US/Germany), Raqs Media Collective (India) and Ujjwal Utkarsh (India).
