Event Description : After receiving spectacular response in Mumbai & Chennai, Citi India jointly with The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), India’s premiere art and culture institution, for the second time, is back to mesmerize the Delhi audience for a stirring journey through an innovative Festival of Indian Music – Citi-NCPA Aadi Anant: From Here to Eternity.
The symbiotic relationship of Guru-shishya becomes instrumental in ushering changes to the traditions and then carrying forward the tradition of change. In the eternal stream of time and knowledge, Gurus groom shishyas, who in turn don the mantle of Guru and the cycle, thus continues. Citi India and The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), India’s premiere art and culture institution, join hands to celebrate this vitality with which artistic traditions keep redefining and rejuvenating themselves.

Performances :-
Delhi’s music-loving crowd will witness the Mumbai line-up featuring same Zakir Hussain (tabla) with Aditya Kalyanpur (tabla) and Navin Sharma (tabla); supported by Sabir Khan (sarangi), Ravi Chary (sitar) and Sraboni Choudhary (vocal)

The festival is based on the juxtaposition of the concepts of eternity and those that are bound by time, and how the two co-exist in our lives. The concept of eternity (anant) denotes that which has neither a beginning (aadi) nor an end (ant). In the domain of arts, the notion of Eternity has more than one expression — the relentless creative processes that help redefine and rejuvenate traditions, and the uninterrupted manner in which the traditions are communicated from one generation to the next. Since Vedic times, oral tradition is central to Indian pedagogy and even today, in the realm of performing arts the oral-aural mode of communication is regarded as the most effective way of ensuring promulgation of various art forms. Consequently, the institution of Guru as a repository of knowledge and shishya as one who receives the same and carries it forth becomes vital in the process of knowledge communication. The festival will therefore present works that are deeply embedded in the tradition, and yet seek to reach out in to the infinite realms of creativity, inspired by the changing socio-cultural milieu in which the next generation of the artistes are being groomed.

Dr. Suvarnalata Rao, Head – Programming (Indian Music), NCPA, said, “The NCPA is happy to partner with Citi India, as both have been trendsetters in our respective fields, in creating the second edition of this unique festival that aligns with our common vision of nurturing traditions with innovations. We value that which endures and tends towards the Truth, and firmly believe in nurturing it for posterity.”
