Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) presents discussion & book launch based on Ayodhya at SAHMAT Office, 29, Ferozshah Road > 5pm on 6th December 2012
Time : 5:00 pm
Entry : Free
Place : SAHMAT Office, 29, Ferozshah Road, New Delhi
Venue Info : www.sahmat.org | Map | Nearest Metro Station - 'Patel Chowk(Yellow Line)'
Event Description : Exactly twenty years after the demolition of the Babri Masjid, India continues to reel from its many consequences - India’s secular fabric, its sense of being a composite whole was severely tested that day.
To mark the day, Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) has organised a meeting and a discussion to assess the time gone by and the continuing imprint of that long day.
SAHMAT just after the demolition, was inspired to assess Ayodhya not only as a flashpoint but as a point of confluence through the ages. Its Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim dimensions are many and varied. All this was captured in an exhibition which was set up a few months after the demolition. New Delhi’s Nehru Memorial Library and Museum was one of the places it was set up in, and from where it was forcibly removed by the police. The book, 'Ham Sab Ayodhya' being released is based on the exhibits of the time.
It is our view that Ayodhya is much more than a town with a just story of a ‘Hindu-Muslim dispute’. It is a microcosm of what India is - hence, Hum Sab Ayodhya, “We Are All Ayodhya.”
'Ham Sab Ayodhya', a colour edition, would be released by Aruna Roy, a leading light in the Accountability movement and currently with the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan.
Professor Prabhat Patnaik and Sitaram Yechury (MP) will speak.
Chair : former Chief Justice of India, JS Verma
He would also share some of his thoughts on the Indian secular tradition and the role of the judiciary in keeping it alive.
