Event Details : 'Photographic narrative of the Latin-American identity' conference. Arts and Architecture.
Synopsis: This is a journey through the photographic genres that since the past has witnessed the changing and diverse Latinamerica of the late 19th Century. The conference introduces the beginnings in Latin America of the applications of the interesting system of visual reality replications, the technical principles and its social, political and artistic evolution. We will also explore other constant concept changes in the cultural reality, leaving Latinamerica express and presenting a narrative based in images through the main figures of artistic and testimonial photography, photojournalism and vanguard photography. Like in the art, in photography the generic classifications obbey the multiple intentions, realities, objectives, p4aQ@`erceptions, functions and languages of each social group related to photography. A photography, taken in a specific time and place, taken to communicate about social problems and phenomenon can, as time goes by, change its meaning or lecture in other place and time and social background. This way the narrative takes different shades in the differet images, as vibrant as the latinamerican culture itself.
Biography: Mayra Navarrete. Graduated by the CentrAmerican University José Simeón Cañas as a civil engineer, Mayra Navarrete began her career as a photographer thourgh the need to recover an identity and culture dispersed by the cruelty of the civil war. Her work in native communities in the areas of Bribri and Cabécar in Costa Rica, Kunas in Panamá, Lencas in El Salvador and Mayas in Guatemala define the testimonial and informative style of her photographies. In South and North America, her photographic exhibition are linked to exhibitions of crafts, textile, ceramics and leather add a narrative reality that images and identity, specially the feminine, shows up in her work. Settled in New Delhi, she studies new ceramics techniques and works in her study of the Southasian production, following the flows that India provides for the lens eager for colors, faces, stories and traditions.
