Event Details : W+K Exp presents ‘Outside India’, a solo exhibition that looks at everyday spaces, activities and lives around the previous W+K Exp Gallery space - the DDA Shopping Complex in Sheikh-Sarai. The exhibition records what was ‘outside’ by bringing it ‘inside’ the gallery space.
Outside India realizes the ordinary in new ways in the form of giant large-scale photographic prints, digital video projections, soft sculpture; large scale digital photographic panels and wall mounted digital wallpapers to be shown around the W+K Exp’s new address in Saket in DLF South Court Mall.
This project considers the politics of space. It utilizes public, commercial and gallery space as part of a discourse on parallel socio-economic and cultural changes.
The exhibition reflects on the connections between commerce and culture within the changing status of a ‘globalised’ India.
Robert E. D’Souza is an artist, designer and academic at Winchester School of Art in the UK.
He has an international 'art + research' practice that overlaps areas of visual art, cultural study and social science in relation to India. He works collaboratively with other practitioners, writers, academics, institutions and students. His visual practice questions the mythologizing of Indian identity by considering wider ideas of the tensions between identity, location and context.
