Event Description : Theatre : “when five years pass” by Federico García Lorca.

Synopsis: Three friends- Young Man, Old Man and First Friend- have gathered at the Young Man’s house, attended by a Servant. They keep hearing the cries for a Dead Boy and talks about a Cat. The Young Man has to go to claim his Fiancee whom he had demanded that he would marry only after five years of waiting. The Young Man’s Typist is madly in love with him but he rejects her love. But by the time the Young Man reaches the Fiancee, she has already fallen for a Football Player. Against the appeals of her Maid and her Father, the Fiancee rejects the Young Man and runs away with the Football Player. Dejected, the Young Man converses with the Mannequin wearing the Wedding Gown, which tells him of the child the Young Man desperately needs. The Young Man goes back to find the Typist and on the way encounters a Harlequin and a Clown who block him. When the Young Man finally gets to the Typist she asks him to wait for another five years. Going back home he will find an unexpected ending.

Biography: Primarily an actor and an experienced director, Kusum Haider has been an important figure in Delhi theatre for decades now. One of the founders of the theatre group, Yatrik, a speech coach, a Taichi trainer and an actor with stalwart directors of Indian theatre, many of her plays have been performed in India and abroad. She has directed two of Lorca;s plays earlier viz. Blood Wedding and Yerma.
