Event Details : Red Earth presents Chandni Chowk Night Walk 1.
The city of Shahjahanabad (17th century) is often regarded as the largest and busiest medieval cities of India. A happy mix of commerce, heritage and layers of history and built heritage from across the centuries – Mughal, British and contemporary; mind blowing street food; the lovely people of the walled city, and their infectious joie de vivre – all weave a fascinating web for the walker. This excursion however has no other agenda but to explore the life of the city at night. The treasure-house of experiences continues to delight our senses at all times of the day – and at night the magic of Old Delhi is a different one, almost a parallel life.
We will start our walk at Sisganj Gurudwara, followed by a visit to the next door Sunahri Masjid, and a quick sweet stop at Kanwarji’s. We then proceed to explore the hidden wonders that the city offers in its million by-lanes. Walking though Ballimaran’s plentiful bakeries and chai shops, we will wander towards Jama Masjid, and revel in the glittering bazaars around the mosque that shine on till the wee hours of the morning. From here, we end up at Darya Ganj to have a dinner at the legendary Moti Mahal restaurant, and finally conclude the walk at Delhi Gate, going through Darya Ganj’s eclectic mix of art deco colonial buildings.
