Synopsis: Rodolfo and Petrita have been together for twelve years. Before they can get married, they need a flat, but they just can’t find one. Rodolfo is subletting a room in a flat owned by Mrs. Martina, a decrepit old lady who’s about to kick the bucket and her landlord is eager for her to pop off so he can knock down the building. Some people advise Rodolfo to do the heroic: marry Mrs. Martina and wait it out so that he can inherit the flat. Rodolfo resists, but he becomes weaker and weaker by the day.
