Event Details : 'What is Yokai : Japanese Monsters and Ghosts' What is Yokai? Yokai is a type of monstrous beings in Japan.
In Japan, there are many types of Yokai (monstrous beings). These Yokais are not necessary the old beliefs which are not observed in Japan anymore. To the contrary, novelists and painters continue to take pleasure in creating new Yokais even today.
In this lecture, the Japan Foundation invites the most prominent scholar, Prof. Kazuhiko Komatsu, Director General, International Research Center for Japanese Studies, who is also called “Yokai Doctor”. He will give us a lecture on Yokai stories of Japan which many scholars and researchers of all around the world pay attention to. We hope this will be a chance not only to learn about Yokais, but also about the Japanese cultural background and their faiths.
