Event Details : Delhi by Foot presents Special Walk Event on Mutiny of 1857 & Delhi's Significance.
In May 1857, ‘Dilli Chalo’ was the battle cry of thousands of Indian soldiers of the British East India Company who rebelled against their English masters and Delhi was the first stronghold the 'Rebels' wrested from English control.
On 14th Sept 1857, the English armed forces recaptured Delhi from the control of the Indian 'Rebels', thus ending the short-lived triumph of the Indian forces in Delhi which had begun 4 months ago in May 1857.
On 16th Sept, 2012, 155 years after those tumultuous times of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, DelhiByFoot invites Delhizens to discover with their eyes, ears, feet & hearts the thrilling stories of intrigue, danger & conspiracies during India’s "1st War Of Independence" as we explore some of the strategically significant spots related to the Mutiny around Delhi’s Northern Ridge & Kashmiri Gate area. The walk covers one of Delhi’s major fort entrances which saw pitched fighting, memorials erected in the memory of the British & Indian(native) soldiers who lost their lives during the mutiny, British residencies, Churches & cemeteries and more.
A must visit for school children, heritage & Dilli lovers.
