blueFROG is thrilled to present a fantastic collaboration between heavyweight musicians who are superstars in their respective countries. Grammy Award winning American saxophonist Bill Evans teams up with Indian drummer par excellence Ranjit Barot bringing together bass God Etienne Mbappe from Cameroon and guitarist Marc Guillermont from France. A truly international collection of music stars presenting a truly unique and international sound.
This tour features the music of Bill Evans and Ranjit Barot, two composers who come from near - diametrically opposite ends of musical and cultural influences, but who are clearly in simpatico with each other and the spirit of constantly evolving, improvised music. This is the first time that they are performing together.
Bill burst onto the scene with his incendiary playing on Miles Davis' album 'Man with the horn', and went on to a become a long standing member of the last avatar of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. He currently has his own successful band Soulgrass.
Ranjit started his jazz career with the great Indian pianist Louis Banks and was first noticed internationally when he recorded 'Floating Point' with John McLaughlin. He then went on to tour with John McLaughlin and is currently a member of The 4th Dimension, John's long-standing fusion band. His debut jazz / world album Bada Boom was released in 2010 to popular and critical acclaim.
Their merging of cultures through their own unique sound, represents a singularity of sorts, a state where several 'musical' worlds co-exist comfortably.
They are supported by the great bass player Etienne Mbappe, a Zawinul Syndicate alumni, a composer in his own right with his band Su La Take. He is also a member of The 4th Dimension and on and off co-conspirator with Bill. Marc Guillermont, one of guitars unsung heroes, is a composer based in Paris; whose collaborations have included musicians like Gary Husband. His association with Ranjit began on Bada Boom.
