Event Details : SPACE and ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) collaborated and will be holding a public outreach (observation) in Jantar Mantar. As planet Venus, the second planet from the Sun, will transit the disk of the sun. ‘Venus Transit’ is a rare eclipse event where Venus passes directly between the earth and the Sun. After June 6th, 2012 the next such transit will occur in 2117, making this the last one anyone alive now will see in their lifetime! This will be viewable from some parts of the world, including India, clouds and weather permitting.
SPACE team of experts with equipments will be in Jantar Mantar on June 6th. The equipment includes telescopes, projector and solar filters, etc. for the mass observation. The images will be projected onto a large screen.
Please mark your presence for the last Venus Transit of our lifetime. It is impossible to witness this with naked eye or with glares commonly available. Media is welcome to join.
This is the last opportunity for us to witness this celestial marvel. So can you afford to miss it?
