Event Details : Spanish writer Marifé Santiago and Bengali Chaitali Chattopadhyay, will discuss the
status of women in poetry and recite some of his poems in Spanish and kannada respectively.
Biography: Maria Fernanda Bolaños Santiago (Madrid, 1962). Qualified with a PhD in
Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid is a poet, professor and specialist in
aesthetics. She publishes in newspapers and magazines and participates in various
conferences on aesthetics, especially on theater and its relationship with philosophy. She has
directed for 10 years the Hall of Theatre Research at the Faculty of Philosophy at the
Universidad Complutense of Madrid. Part of her work is translated into English, Hebrew,
Russian and Bengali.
Chaitali Chattopadhyay. Selected in 2002 as a poet of the year in Bengal (Prasar Bharati) and winner of the national awards ' Vishnu Of Award ' in 1989, Uday Bharatai National Award' in 1995, the „Meerabai Bangla Academy Award‟ in the 1996, and the „Shakti Chattopadhyay Award of West Bengal‟ in 1998, is one of the most powerful voices of Bengali poetry. Bold poet, informal and self-evasive she believes in poetry as life rather than create it.
