"Narratives of the Self" a group show of The Autobiographical picture books by renowned artists at Gallery Espace, 16 Community Centre, New Friends Colony > 11am-7pm on 27th January-27th February 2012
Time : 11:00 am - 7:00 pm (Sunday Closed)
Event Details : Gallery Espace presents The Autobiographical picture books, a group show by renowned artists titled,’ Narratives of the Self’. This collateral event with India Art Fair 2012 will showcase the art works in the format of a drawing book, scroll or an accordion. The medium aspires the artists to incorporate a wide spectrum of ideas, concepts, creative urges and expressions to make their picture book the best possible articulation of their life and the works.
An artist’s drawings are valuable, significant and necessary tools in understanding an art practice. Drawing styles are as personal, descriptive and expressive as handwriting and lend themselves to equally intense analysis. Hence, this exhibition endeavours leads to invaluable visual narrative and also facilitate the flexibility to select instances, events or concepts of an artist’s personality and life that the artist would wish to make public.
In the past, some sketchbooks have been brought to light posthumously, more as documents and windows into artist’s personal lives, giving unexpected and illuminating access to their trajectory from conception to fruition. Gallery Espace has always been inclined towards projects related to drawing. In 2001 the gallery showcased sketchbooks and works on paper called In Conversation that was curated by Gayatri Sinha ji.
