Sanjuro, a wandering samurai in 19th century Japan, reaches a town dvided by opposing gangs. He decides to rid the village of both, by playing one gang against the other. His luck runs out after he frees a woman, and is later discovered by the revolver wielding Unosuke who slaighters rival gang members and gravely injures Sanjuro. He escapes and recovers ina temple. When his helper, the innkeeper, is captured, Sanjuro must face Unosuke. But would his wit and skill be any match against a revolver?
