Event Details : 'Postcards from the Forest' photo exhibition by Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi. 
‘Post Cards from the Forest’ is a moving meditation on love and the threat of its sudden retreat. In 2009, after the end of an important friendship the novelist and artist Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi moved from Bombay – a city of 18 million people – to Matheran, a forest town of 5000. From this solitary reflection emerge nine eerie and evocative photographs accompanied with text 'stories' that summon to mind the narrative genius of artists like Sophie Calle and Duane Michals.
The show’s second part, The Toy Train, are visual notes addressed to the artist’s friend: magical and witty reconstructions of forest life as witnessed through Matheran’s unique toy train. Intimate and tender, funny and clear-minded, these originally sized and framed works are a lyric counterpoint to the nine language photos. Both bodies of work explore powerful themes of lament and nostalgia, and how we retrieve through art those lost to life.
