Event Details : 'In Other Words' In Other Words presents a set of transposed thoughts/actions, resultant of different modes of interactions amongst the participants: one-to-one, group and collective through access to one another over a three-month process. With seven participants and a number of collaborations and exchanges, the exhibition-field is processual, mapping concepts in the space. It invites audience to fathom challenges and creative possibilities of the act of reading itself, be it an image/a gesture/a text/a structure/a character.
The moment of articulation of a thought/idea is also the moment of alteration and invitation. In Other Words is the proposed context of this constant transposition, initiating a relay process. All have batons in their hands. All run pillar to post. All are cross-eyed; seeing each other and their ideas with different perspectives. It is then an experiment in comprehension hinging on a kind of ephemeral collectivity.  The event is dispersed across the CSDS-Sarai building and surrounds, adding a layer of access and movement within structure.
Prioritising ideas, In Other Words is positioned as a mode of collectively developing individual processes. There are certain definitive obsessions such as Bahbak’s tracing of the city’s local identity vis-à-vis specific encounters and search for vantage points through twenty-two views of the sun, or Sujeet's metaphoric play of binaries of ‘digging’ and ‘constructing’ and Kush's questions of the prevalence of screens, exploring  alternative mediation of daily life. Drifting away from the curator’s role of mediating the artist/exhibition, of witnessing the process, Akansha role-plays as ‘curator as  participant’, thereby, renegotiating the familiar and extending the relationship with the event. Paribartana explores his interests in geometry through different formats of fiction, poetry and love-stories; Pratik revisions his deconstruction of words and their variations through collaborations and Surya walks precariously between writing, curation and interface.
Associate Curator at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Akansha Rastogi and New Delhi-based artist Paribartana Mohanty were part of the first chapter of Sarai's City as Studio program; London-based designer, Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad and Mumbai/Sydney-based film maker Kush Badhwar are current international residents at Sarai; New Delhi-based artists Sujeet Mullick and Pratik Sagar are fellows of Sarai's second, upcoming City as Studio program; Surya Singh is an independent New Delhi-based critic and artist.
