Nikhil is the guy who's keeping the EDM scene in India alive and very kicking! MTV VJ, Submerge Founder, DJ, and MC...He’s not just a man of many trades; he's also a man with a vision. A vision of putting India on the Electronic Dance Music map ... and he's doing an amazing job at it. Whether it's getting down amazing national & international artists down for the Submerge nights, or having artists like Axwell, Pete Gooding, Richard Durand, John 'oo' Fleming play for clubs across the country...Nikhil & his crew are changing the face of the Indian club scene. And all their efforts are paying off since December 2007 with Sunburn.
Nikhil is PDM Entertainment's partner at Sunburn, along with being it's Creative Head and festival Host. He juggles this with his day job of being an MTV presenter - something he's done for 10 years now; his night-time job of running India's biggest resource for EDM - Submerge, and his weekend job of DJ-ing across India and hosting his radio show on Bombay's Radio One.
Sleep, he says, is an option he doesn't care to exercise.
Pearl, full on female power and the first image that strikes a musically inclined mind is that of Dj Pearl. Her complete dedication to funky grooves of her own exceptional bass driven sounds propels her into becoming the cynosure of the party. Revolutionizing her style at every interval, thrusts her into different genres of funky, electro, tech and progressive house…which tend to bring out the crazy beats in her musically filled soul. Even now her music has a lot of funk and progressive tunes; making each gig she plays at different and more riveting to us masses.
Submerge is a breakthrough concept, and has revolutionized the music and clubbing scene in India.
Submerge was essentially born out of frustration. When we first began in 2003, it was because there was no alternative to the mainstream. No matter where you went, you got the same old music and the same tired experience
So, the creation of a night where they could play the music that all wanted to hear. It wasn’t about catering to the masses; it was about being on the cutting-edge of music, listening to the best in House and Progressive music.
In the beginning, Submerge nights were getting smaller crowds of fifty people. They were some of our closest friends, and others who were just as obsessed about the musical experience as we were, people who were starved for Tribal, Electro and Tech House music. Very quickly the word spread and our friends grew rapidly in number. 50 turned to 100, then to 200, and 500. It continues to grow to this day.
In fact, most clubs in India have even changed the music they play. Submerge was first on the scene. They identified that thirst because that was our own and they were dying for it. The rest of India took note of our success and co-opted it for its marketability.
Submerge is always going to be about the musical experience, with Tribal, Electro, Tech, and Progressive House music brought to you by the best DJs from around the world, hosted all over India. They pride themselves in finding the best tracks, even unreleased white labels still hot off the presses.
Achievements: Having realized early on that music was her life’s answer, she has since pioneered the cause of electronic dance music across the Indian subcontinent. This commitment to EDM led her to be one of the co-founders of ‘Submerge’ (www.submerge.in), India’s premiere electronic music party which serves as a platform for upcoming DJs in the country and also responsible for bringing down some of the world’s finest DJ talent. From a humble beginning five years ago of a few hundred fanatic clubbers, Submerge now hosts weekly nights across all the major cities in the country and can now boast of a nationwide community of loyal members.
