Event Details : Sur-Taal Presents a Musical Evening by Lata Tandon.
Lata Tandon hails from a lineage of musicians from Rajasthan. Her grandfather, Pt. Sukhdev Prasad Ji and father Pt. Mani Prasad Ji are world known and respected exponents of the Kirana Gharana of Hindustani Classical Music. Her music resonates her heritage and is a rich confluence of the intricacies and nuances of Hindustani Classical Music and the rich music of her native state of Rajasthan.
Since the mid 1990's, Lata Tandon has, tthrough the medium of Hindustani Music, been enthralling audiences and also engaging them in various issues of socio-cultural relevance. These events have seen close participation and purposeful engagement of political and bureaucratic leadership, developmental experts, international agencies, civil society organisations, corporate leaders, media houses, social activists and music connoisseurs and lovers.
Areas that she has highlighted in her shows are Child Survival, the Girl Child, Safe Motherhood, AIDS Prevention, Polio Eradication among others.
There seems to be an apparent linkage of this effort that Lata Tandon had made through the platform of Sur-Taal, to the increased awareness, knowledge and practices that are being improved in the areas of health and nutrition.
The next performance is going to highlight the issues around Hunger and Poverty which are two scrooges that our vast majority of Indian population, almost around 500 million people, are still suffering from. These large number of people, even in the 21st Century when India is the world's largest growing economy and is positioning itself as a global superpower, still do not have enough food to fight hunger and stay healthy.
We request your agency to partner with us in this effort to help spread the message of "Preventing Hunger" far and wide, so that soon the dream of our beloved Mahatma Gandhi of "A Hunger Free India" is actualised.
