Event Details : Screening of the film 'Bronte : Cronaca Di Un Massacro Che I Libri Di Storia Non Hanno Raccontato (Liberty)'

The film, based on Giovanni Verga’s 1882 novella Libertà, recounts events that unfolded in Bronte, a town on the western slopes of Mount Etna, in the aftermath of Sicily’s liberation by Garibaldi. An uprising led to the massacre of a number of local leaders. Garibaldi sent his trusted general and friend Nino Bixio, to restore order; the justice administered by Bixio was swift, summary and brutal. Nicola Lombardo, a liberal lawyer and reformist tragically caught up in the circumstances.
