Event Details : 'The Legacy and Relevance of the Progressive Cultural Movement in India' a three-day seminar. This year is the 75th anniversary of the founding (1936) of the Progressive Writers Association in Lucknow. Speakers will present papers on literature, cinema, theatre, music, dance, photography, print and journalism. We are also planning a small exhibition of vintage works by Sunil Janah, Chittaprosad, IPTA photos and journals, books and publications. Films from the period will be screened every evening, and there will be a lot of rare books on sale.
There is a distinguished list of speakers who are presenting papers. The exhibition has some very rare photographs from private archives and also from the Natarang Pratishthan collection. These include performance pictures of Bhisham and Balraj Sahni, Shanti Bardhan, Ravi Shankar, Rekha Jain from their IPTA days.

13th October : 7 pm at SAHMAT : Dharti Ke Lal, 1946, Directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, IPTA's only film, with Balraj and Damayanti Sahni, Tripti Mitra, Sombhu Mitra, Music by Ravi Shankar.
14th October : 7 pm at SAHMAT : Neecha Nagar, 1946, Directed by Chetan Anand, with Kamini Kaushal, Uma Anand, Zohra Sehgal, Music by Ravi Shankar.
15th October : 7 pm at SAHMAT : IPTA songs, Komal Gandhar, 1961, Directed by Ritwik Ghatak.
