Event Details : '20 Years after the fall of USSR : Contemporary Challenges before the Left' panel discussion.
It is 20 years since the fall of Soviet Union. The world has changed -- imperialist wars and occupation of third world countries are taking place without significant international resistance. The neo-liberal economics has become the dominant orthodoxy: capitalism now feels no need to pay even lip-service to welfare and equity.
However, as the economic crisis shows, the crisis of global capital has only intensified and so has global resistance. The meeting will discuss the impact of the fall of Soviet Union on global international relations: issues such as war, Palestine, expansion of NATO, etc. It will also discuss how capitalism has changed post-Soviet Union -- the growing dominance of finance capital and speculation in the global economy and the current financial crisis. It will also examine how the left should work out its strategy in the context of global crisis of capital and its neo-colonial wars.
