Event Details : Music for Meditation and Healing concert to mark Former President R. Venkataraman Birth Centenary.
To celebrate the Centenary of the former President of India, Late Shri R Venkataraman (RV) (1910-2009), a series of programmes is being organized – from December 4, 2010 to December 4, 2011 – across the country.
As part of this series of President Venkataraman’s birth centenary lectures and cultural programmes and in memory of his wife Late Smt. V. Janaki , a music concert will be held by the renowned Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji.  The Chief Guest Dr. Karan Singh, MP and President ICCR and other dignitaries will grace the occasion. This program is being jointly organized by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and H.E. R. Venkataraman’s family represented by his daughter, Smt. Lakshmi Venkataraman Venkatesan.
President R Venkataraman had always upheld that the answer to the chaotic conditions in the world should be found in moral and spiritual reformation and not through violence. A great patron of the arts, President Venkataraman also believed that music, with its powerful appeal to all mankind can play an integral part in this reformation and unite Humanity the world over. In a world full of conflicts and tensions, music can bring harmony through its message of peace and brotherhood.
Sri Sachchidananda Swamiji of Mysore one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the present day is an asset to India and the world at large. Sri Swamiji's self-composed bhajans in Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and English is devotional and used for spiritual energy transmission. R. Venkatraman, an ardent devotee had said “ Swamiji is a versatile genius. He has attracted attention the world over for his knowledge of herbs and medicinal plants and his expertise in music to cure many ailments. Hundreds of thousands of devotees have been benefited by Swamiji's knowledge”.
This unique concert is being organized by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB), Delhi Kendra –an organization that has received the country’s highest awards including “The Gandhi International Peace Prize” for its noble work. President Venkataraman who served as the President of BVB in his post retirement years had said “Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has had the proud privilege of making the wisdom of our sages available to the younger generations in India and abroad so that they may interpret and apply this wisdom to their own lives and to their society”.
The centenary celebrations are being organized every month all over Delhi in collaboration with prestigious institutions like Teen Murti House, India International Centre, Doordarshan, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Bharatiya Vidya  Bhavan and many more.
Eminent social and political figures like Fmr. President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Vice-President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari, Governors of Punjab and West Bengal, Shri Shivraj Patil and Shri MK Narayanan respectively, Shri Gopal Gandhi, Fmr. Lok Sabha Speakers Shri Somnath Chatterjee and Shri P.A. Sangma, Union Ministers Shri Salman Khursheed and Shri Ashwini Kumar, M.P.’s Dr. Karan Singh, Smt. Kapila Vatsyayan, Shri Chittan, the UN Under Secretary General, spiritual thinkers HH The Dalai Lama and Swami Dayanand Saraswati as well as eminent lawyers and scientists Shri Soli Sorabjee, Prof. MGK Menon and Dr. VS Arunachalem have been highlighting RV’s vision for India. Forthcoming events include cultural performances by Dr. L. Subramaniam, danseuse Shovana Narayan and Sonal Mansingh.
